Few years ago Audi started equipping its most expensive vehicles with CobraTrak device. It’s a tracking system that enables the car to be traced in more than 36 countries in Europe, also whole territory of Russia and South Africa. This feature is latest technology and is very difficult to be deactivated and also the signal is very difficult to be stopped once activated. Most of the modern thieves are failing when they try to steal such car. The most recent example is from March, 2012 when in Paris a 135 000 EUR Audi R8 was stolen. The robbery was not a scenario for an action movie; the thieves just first stole the keys for the supercar and then without any problems took the car and head towards Eastern Europe. The same day the driver contacted the police and the owner of the car- the leasing company. However, the attempts to find the vehicle were unsuccessful. The next day police contacted the support center of CobraTrak with the details about this Audi R8, very shortly after that it was discovered that the location of the auto is in Athens Greece. For less than 2 days the criminals had succeed in driving across whole Europe, nearly 3000 kilometers from Paris to Athens. In less than 2 hours after the car position was defined the local police in Greece managed to arrest the car and confiscate the car to a secure police parking.
The CobraTrak device has proven to give excellent results. Without such device the average percentage of cars found after being stolen is around 50%, whether with a tracking system it jumps to around 70%. The uniqueness of CobraTrak is that the police departments all over Europe, Russia and South Africa has signed contract for assisting in such cases.

One Response to “Stolen in Paris Audi R8 was found in Athens”

Really interesting story. My Audi A4 got stolen few years ago, unfortunately, the police did not succeed in finding it. I will probably put the Cobra Tracker if it’s not too expensive just in case. Better safe than sorry.
